Properties in Arncliffe, Banksia, Bardwell Valley, Bardwell Park, Bexley, Bexley North, Brighton Le Sands, Carlton, Dolls Point, Kingsgrove, Kogarah, Kyeemagh, Monterey, Ramsgate, Ramsgate Beach, Rockdale, Sandringham, Sans Souci, Turrella and Wolli Creek, will have access to a new Garden Organics service from 30 September 2024.
This will ensure a Garden Organics service is available to all residents in Bayside. Properties in these areas will receive a green-lidded bin commencing this August in preparation for the service to commence on 30 September 2024. All other suburbs already have this service.

Garden Organics Rollout
1. Who will receive the Garden Organics (GO) service?
All households and businesses qualify for this service by paying for a Bayside Council domestic waste service through their rates. Properties in Arncliffe, Banksia, Bardwell Valley, Bardwell Park, Bexley, Bexley North, Brighton Le Sands, Carlton, Dolls Point, Kingsgrove, Kogarah, Kyeemagh, Monterey, Ramsgate, Ramsgate Beach, Rockdale, Sandringham, Sans Souci, Turrella and Wolli Creek, will have access to a new Garden Organics service from Monday 30 September 2024. All other Bayside suburbs already have this service.
2. What size are the bins?
240L.
3. Is there a smaller size available?
The bins are the standard size of 240L. You can contact Council if you need a special consideration.
4. When are the new GO services starting?
From Monday 30 September 2024. Collections will be fortnightly.
5. If I don’t currently have a GO service, when will I receive a green-lidded bin?
From 17 August to 27 September 2024. Units and apartments will receive shared bins during this period.
6. Will this new GO bin impact on the frequency or bin size of my General Waste and Recycling service?
No, there will be no impact to the current waste and recycling services. Your red-lidded bin will still be collected weekly. Your yellow-lidded and green-lidded bins will be collected fortnightly on alternate weeks.
7. What can I put in my GO bin?
Garden clippings, weeds, leaves, pruning, flowers, and small branches (less than 10cm thick).
8. What can’t I put in my GO bin?
No general rubbish, food, plastic bags, large tree limbs, bricks, rocks, soil, potting mix, treated timber, recyclables, garden accessories, animal droppings, or dead animals.
9. Why can’t I put my garden organics in the red- lidded bin like I used to?
Starting 30 September 2024, garden organics must go in the green- lidded bin as we move towards a FOGO service by 2030, as mandated by the NSW Government.
10. What happens if I put incorrect items in my GO bin?
Your bin may not be emptied until the unacceptable items are removed.
11. What if I don’t have space for a GO bin?

12. What is the cost of the GO service?
It is covered within the existing annual Domestic Waste Management charge.
13. Can I opt out of the GO service?
No, it’s part of the Council’s Domestic Waste Management service. You can opt to not have a bin.
14. Why is Bayside Council introducing a Garden Organics service?
To ensure all residents have a GO service and prepare for a FOGO service by 2030, supporting resource recovery and a circular economy as mandated by the NSW Government.
15. What are the benefits of the Garden Organics service?
It reduces landfill waste and recycles garden organics into high-quality compost.
16. What if I have other questions about the new GO service that haven’t been answered here?

17. What are you doing differently to other Councils who have had issues with their waste changes?
We are working to minimise the disruption to residents by maintaining the current waste and recycling services collection schedule. The bin sizes will also remain unchanged to minimise confusion for both residents and the waste collection staff.
Unit/Apartment Building Questions
1. I live in a unit/apartment, will I receive a GO service?
Yes, all eligible properties receiving Council waste collection services will have access to a GO service.
2. I live in an apartment building with a private waste collection service. Will I receive a Garden Organics service?
No. Contact your owner’s corporation or use Clean Up services and Drop Off Events for your garden organics.
3. How many green bins will my building be allocated?
A ratio of 5 units/apartments to 1 bin (maximum of 10 bins per building).
4. As a strata/building manager, can our building choose not to participate in the GO service?
Yes, they can opt-out or request a reduced bin allocation by Friday 9 August 2024. However, note that the Domestic Waste Management Charge for residents will remain unchanged.
